• Scholarships and Financial Aid. Learn about scholarships and financial aid, including some scholarships available only to CLA transfer students.

• ** Confirm your enrollment by paying your confirmation fee. After you pay your confirmation fee, you'll receive information about attending your required orientation program.
  

• ** Initiate your University of Minnesota Internet account. You'll need your Internet ID and password to sign up for orientation, register for classes, and access the University's online resources.
  

• Housing. Housing & Residential Life has an information packed website where you can download a Housing Guidebook and apply for housing online.
  

• Checklist for new international students. This checklist outlines the special steps you need to take as an international student both before and after you arrive on campus.
  

• March 1 ~ deadline to apply for financial aid. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). FAFSA is used to determine your eligibility for federal, state, and University aid.
  

• ** Orientation dates for transfer students are in July and August. Sign-up for specific dates (space is limited) begins in late March. Orientation is a full-day (half-day if you complete the full Online Orientation) introduction to the University of Minnesota and the College of Liberal Arts. You will meet other transfer students with interests similar to yours and learn about degree requirements and opportunities in CLA and at the University, and you'll meet individually with your academic adviser and register for classes.
  

• ** Reserve your orientation dates using your New Student Checklist online at mycla.umn.edu. After you complete a brief questionnaire, you will be assigned an advising student community and offered orientation dates, based on your proposed major.
  

• ** Check your U or M e-mail regularly: it's the official means of communication at the University.
  

• ** Take placement tests online. Depending on your goals, skill level and previous course work, you may need to take placement tests in math, chemistry, French, German, or Spanish. Placement tests help you avoid wasting time and money on classes that are too easy or too hard.
  

• Parent orientation. Parents and guests of transfer students are invited to attend the Parent Orientation Program. Get answers to your questions about University resources and opportunities and what to expect the first year.
  

• ** Complete the CLA section of Online Orientation. If you also complete the optional University section, you are eligible for the half-day on-campus experience.
  

• ** Attend orientation. Orientation & First-Year Programs has the details, including directions to campus, parking information, and a checklist of what to bring with you.
  

• International students: complete your Document Check, and International Student Orientation, before attending your CLA orientation program and registering for classes.
  

• ** Fall semester classes start September 7.
  

• ** Schedule an appointment with your adviser early in your first semester.
