International Students

The College of Liberal Arts (CLA) academic Orientation/Registration program is required for all new students. At your CLA orientation you will learn about opportunities for CLA students, meet with your CLA adviser and register for classes. Plan to attend an early orientation date and sign up in advance using your New Student Checklist.

As soon as you arrive on campus--
Go to International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) in 190 Hubert H. Humphrey Center for a document check and to receive information about removing holds from your student record. You cannot register until these holds are removed. You will also sign up for an International Student Orientation Program. For more information, please visit ISSS. For directions to the office, call 612-626-7100.

It is important for you to understand that you must attend two different orientations.

International students are required to attend both the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) academic Orientation/ Registration program and the International Student Orientation Program (ISOP). At your CLA orientation you will learn about degree requirements and college policies and procedures, meet with your academic adviser and register for classes. The ISOP will introduce you to U.S. educational and cultural values, and provide you with important information about available services, offices, and programs for international students at the University. These programs will help you make a smooth transition to life at the University of Minnesota.
