November
- ** Reserve your orientation dates using your New Student Checklist online at mycla.umn.edu. After you complete a brief questionnaire, you will be assigned an advising student community and offered orientation dates to choose from. Orientation dates for new students are in January. Orientation is a full -day introduction to the University of Minnesota and the College of Liberal Arts. You will meet other first-year students with interests similar to yours and learn about degree requirements and opportunities in CLA and at the University, and you'll meet individually with your academic adviser and register for classes.
December
- ** Take placement tests online. All first year students are required to take a math placement test. Depending on your goals and skill level, you may also need to take placement tests in chemistry, French, German, or Spanish. Placement tests help you avoid wasting time and money on classes that are too easy or too hard.
